We get an awfully low amount of public holidays as it is, so there is no point in wasting the opportunity when it comes. With the cold winter days fading into memory, spring is in the air, and lets be honest, we are all a bit happier, that is why the Oakford will be making the most of it and hosting a Bank Holiday Sunday Festival..a good excuse for a party hey! Topping the bill will be some of the best party bands around, with the irrepressively cool MAMAS GUN. After a year of highlights including returning shows in venues as the Indigo O2 dome, 93 Feet East, The Pigalle Club, as well as listing luminaries such as Steve Lamacq amongst their fans, MAMAS GUN, armed with the forthcoming release of their album, and major slots at this years festivals, return to Reading after their sell out show in December. Don’t believe me..this is what they are saying "...Mamas Gun offer up some funk as toe-tapping as the recent work of Mark Ronson." Drowned in Sound From the Lockout Vol 1 Review “...The highlight has to be the pure filth funk of 'Ain't Your Life a Bitch' performed by the five piece, and with three part harmonies to boot. It is a lesson in evil groove. And that boy Platts can sing hellagood (in fact, so can 'The Painted Man', this pig was a bit scared when he heard how low his voice can go). This pig and The Chief dig Mamas Gun. They can shoot us with their bop gun anytime.”Excerpt from Gig Pig Review of Indigo2 Show 02 Oct 07. JEWELS & THE JACUZZIS year has rocketed along in much a similar way to MG, with shows including supporting MAD PROFESSOR to a sell out audience at Carling Academy, ANDY SMITH( Portishead, Trojan) and DREADZONE, with the addition of a new 3-4 piece horn section, the band can really pack a punch. The COMMON MORAL CAUSE bring their Soulful Jazzy Hip Hop to the headline table, and the world already seems like a better place. With the loss of the Reading Fez Club, and its mix of some of the biggest names on the scene, this has left a void in the Live scene in Reading over the last few months, with no obvious replacement there seemed no place for some of these acts. Thanks to support from promoters Mr. Blind Pig.com this void will now be filled with the opening of a new Live venue in Reading. A 200 capacity Live venue will open above Bar Dogma in Reading, a club which is well known on the scene for some of the biggest DJ names around, has now added a top class live venue, and expect some big names over the coming months. “it was with sad news to hear that the Reading Fez would be closing and taking with it the great live music policy built from the now departed Ed Frith, legendary Fez promoter for the last few years, but we couldn’t dwell on the fact forever, there needs to be a top quality replacement” says Jack Hepplewhite from Mr. Blind Pig.com Promotions. Mr. Blind Pig will be taking control of Live bookings, collaborating with the best independent labels, top agencies and publishers, to ensure we get this quality back. Some of the names already involved are rumored to include: The Infadels, Pinkertones, Tom Mansi & The Icebreakers, We Are Hold Fire, Team Robes Pierre, The Vice, Flipron… Live shows will take place every Monday, alongside the new Monday night Indie/Electro/Rock/Alternative club, with its 2 floors of DJ’s spinning the best new and old indie/rock anthems along with the hottest unreleased music. Opening night is on the 26th May, Live acts confirmed so far include: Tom Mansi & The Icebreakers and The Pinker Tones, and as a special opening offer, guests to the Indie, rock night will be able to get into the Live show with no extra cost. Prices start at 3 pounds with NUS. Tickets can be found @ WeGotTickets.com |
